I am Mohamed, 41 years old, a jewelry craftsman from Niger. I have been creating jewelry pieces from the Tuareg culture since I was 15 years old. Even as a small child, I constantly wanted to help my father in making these unique pieces of jewelry. However, he was determined that I finish school and graduate. When the time came and I was able, or rather allowed, to help my father, I sat next to him every day and closely observed what he was doing and how he worked. He taught me everything about making jewelry, and step by step, I became a true professional like him. Eventually, I was able to pass these techniques on to my younger brothers. Since my father is already 75 years old, I took over the workshop with my brothers, uncle, and other acquaintances, both women and men, and it brings me great joy every day to be able to grind, polish, process silver, ebony, and other materials with my 8-member team and create a unique piece of jewelry.
