Big necklace with cross and pearls
"A sign of the collective identity of a good part of the country"
The cross is one of the main symbols of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. It's everywhere, in fact women tattoo it on their foreheads or on their hands... A good part of the Ethiopian people wear a small cross around their neck, often made of wood, but also stone or metal, there is the"by hand"that the priests take with them wherever they go, be it on a walk or at Mass...
There are those that they take with them in the processions, they are painted or carved on the walls of houses, churches and the surrounding area.
In Ethiopia, important religious and para-religious texts were written about the cross, and not a few rulers took their real name Gabra Maesqal, the"Servant of the Cross".
