The Tuareg crosses, also known as “Agadez crosses,” originally come from Niger and are deeply rooted in the nomadic culture of the Tuareg. Each cross carries its own symbolism: protection, guidance, and the connection between heaven and earth. They are traditionally passed down from father to son, often as a sign of maturity or as a good-luck charm for travel.

This unique piece of jewelry combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless design – perfect for lovers of authentic African art and culture.

A Tuareg legend says that the father gives his son the cross when he begins traveling through the desert alone, and says:

“My son, I leave you no gold and no silver, but the four cardinal directions, so that you never lose your way.”

I am Mohamed, 41 years old, a jewelry craftsman from Niger.
I have been making and creating jewelry from Tuareg culture since I was 15 years old. Even as a small child, I always wanted to help my father make these unique pieces of jewelry. But he absolutely wanted me to finish school and graduate. When the time came and I could help my father, or rather was allowed to, I would sit next to him every day and watch closely what he did and how he worked. He explained everything to me about making jewelry, and step by step I became a true professional like him. I was eventually able to pass these techniques on to my younger brothers. Since my father is already 75 years old, I have taken over the workshop with my brothers, uncle, and other acquaintances, women as well as men, and every day it gives me great joy to be able to grind, polish, and work silver, ebony, and other materials with my team of 8 and create a unique piece of jewelry.
